{"id":5317,"date":"2026-06-24T17:43:44","date_gmt":"2026-06-24T17:43:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/racingsport.xyz\/?p=5317"},"modified":"2026-06-24T17:43:44","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T17:43:44","slug":"bbc-extends-agreement-to-broadcast-scotland-wales-and-northern-ireland-games-to-2028","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/racingsport.xyz\/?p=5317","title":{"rendered":"BBC extends agreement to broadcast Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland games to 2028"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Men&#8217;s international games for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will continue to be broadcast on the BBC.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The broadcaster has extended its rights agreement with Uefa, ensuring all of each nation&#8217;s Uefa fixtures will remain live and free-to-air until June 2028.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The BBC will show about 60 live matches over the next two years, including this autumn&#8217;s Nations League fixtures and the Euro 2028 qualifiers involving the three teams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Every match will continue to be available across all platforms, including BBC television, BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The BBC has been the home of international football for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland since March 2025, when it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/articles\/c14jg406vj8o\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">secured full live rights for all three of the UK&#8217;s devolved nations for the first time.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Since then, it has registered record audiences during qualifying for this summer&#8217;s World Cup, with Scotland&#8217;s decisive win over Denmark attracting 1.1million viewers in Scotland and an average of 2.7million across the UK.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Wales&#8217; play-off semi-final with Bosnia-Herzegovina drew an audience of 1.71million across the UK (280,000 in Wales), while Northern Ireland&#8217;s qualifier against Germany attracted 1.11million UK-wide (121,000 in Northern Ireland).<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">BBC coverage of the World Cup has resulted in record numbers for the BBC Sport app, live streams, podcasts and social media content.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;These fixtures bring communities together and deliver some of the biggest shared moments in our sporting calendar,&#8221; said Rhuanedd Richards, interim director of BBC Nations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We&#8217;re proud to continue telling these stories and showcasing our nations&#8217; teams.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Alex Kay-Jelski, BBC Director of Sport, added: &#8220;International football creates moments that unite communities, sparks national pride and generates huge audiences across every platform.
